Buyer’s guide · Commission & payroll

How to track commission payouts by stylist

You need three things in one place: each stylist’s pay rule, every service and tip they did, and a record of what was paid and when. In Gloora, pay plans run on the bookings already in the system, and each payout is recorded when you mark it paid.

Why commission is hard to track by hand

Spreadsheets before payday

Card machine, cash drawer and diary are reconciled by hand, then commission is worked out per person, and the totals still disagree.

Every stylist is paid differently

One is on salary plus commission, another is paid by the day, a third by the hour; some earn on the price the client paid, others on the menu price.

Tips and shared services

A tip on a service two people shared, a cash tip handed over the counter, a tip added after checkout: each has to reach the right person exactly once.

Tracking commission by stylist in Gloora, step by step

  1. Give each stylist a pay plan

Choose the base (salary, day, week or hourly rate) and the commission by service, with tiers and overtime, and see a worked example in the person’s pay currency before you save.

In the app: Settings → Team → Compensation

  2. Set the branch’s commission rules

Each branch chooses whether commission is on the price the client paid or on the regular menu price, how add-ons earn, and how a shared service splits. Each option shows a worked example.

In the app: Settings → Branches → Tickets & pay

  3. Let services and tips feed in

Every completed service is credited to who did it; one tip per visit splits across the stylists, equally or by service price; cash tips are recorded by each stylist or by the desk.

In the app: Collect payment · Cash tips

  4. Read commission per stylist

Payroll shows each person’s base, commission and tips for the period; Staff Comparison ranks everyone by revenue or commission.

In the app: Payroll · Reports → Staff Comparison

  5. Close the period and record each payout

Close period locks the figures; Payslip makes a summary or detailed PDF; Mark as paid records the method and the day. Each stylist sees their own payslips on My day.

In the app: Payroll → Close period · Mark as paid · My day

Limits and honest trade-offs

  • Gloora works out and records commission; it does not move the money. You pay by your own methods and mark the period paid.
  • Payroll exports for your accountant, Gusto or QuickBooks; tax filings stay with your accountant or payroll provider.
  • A closed period can be reopened and keeps its original snapshot; a payslip that changes afterwards is flagged to download again.

Questions buyers ask

How do I track commission payouts by stylist?

Set each stylist’s pay plan once, let completed services and tips credit them automatically, close the pay period, and record each payout with Mark as paid. Payroll then shows, per stylist, what was earned and what was paid, and when.

Can commission be on the price before or after a discount?

Yes, per branch: on the price the client paid, or on the regular menu price.

How are tips split when two stylists did the work?

One tip for the visit splits equally or by service price; on a shared service, the branch decides whether it splits by each person’s share or all goes to the lead.

Can stylists see their own commission?

Yes. My day shows each person’s bookings, earnings and payslips on their own phone, and nobody can open a colleague’s.

Can I export commission for payroll?

Yes, for your accountant, Gusto or QuickBooks.

What does it cost?

Payroll & Commissions is USD 15 per branch a month on Basic on the Global list (EUR 15 in Europe, AED 50 in the UAE), and included in Premium and Own Brand.
